With the release of his first solo album, The Season, singer-songwriter Jack McLaughlin has created a rich tapestry of song stylings. Ranging from Bossa nova to country to acoustic rock, many of Pittsburgh’s finest session musicians have lent their talents to this effort. Some of these include Al Peden, bassist with Dr. Zoot, studio percussionist Paul Martello of The Jaggerz, and aspiring opera star Anna Bruckner from Purchase College (SUNY). With over 15 original songs on The Season, the playtime is over an hour in length and can be purchased online or at shows.
The Pittsburgh City Paper recently ran a review of “The Season.”
By Andy Mulkerin
“Nice, light tunes, mostly acoustic guitar-based. Topics range from the usual looking-for-love stuff to more heady material, like the Civil War.” Mulkerin also stated, “Great guitar work, and there’s a nice original Christmas song thrown in for good measure.”
Jack was also recently the featured solo musical artist on radio KQV’s “Career Talk” with Scott Albert.
“The next Career Talk w/ Scott Albert will air on Monday the 27th at 7:30 PM. Our guest is Mr. Taris Vrcek of the McKees Rocks CDC. Mr. Vrcek and I will discuss community development, jobs within a local neighborhood and opportunities for young people to get involved. The show will feature music by local singer/songwriter JACK MCLAUGHLIN and an appearance by a special mystery guest. Tune in for more! Check out previous shows at www.kqv.com in the archives section!”
Aditionally, “The Season” recieved a plug in the Sewickley Harald during an interview with young opera sensation Anna Bruckner (McTiernan).
“She also has recorded two albums with her uncle, Jack McLaughlin of Green Tree, a singer, songwriter, pianist, guitarist, and music teacher at South Allegheny Elementary School.
McTiernan is backup singer for “Country Girl” and “Rockin’ Under the Sun,” on McLaughlin’s album, ‘The Season.’”
Jack also was the featured performer during a live radio broadcast from the Saturday Light Brigade at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. (Please see slbradio.org for a podcast of the performance.)
